The Dandy Warhols’ frontman co-pens graphic novel about a rock band in 1977 Berlin.
Telling the (fictitious), politically-charged adventures of art noise band, One Model Nation, Courtney Taylor-Talyor and cohort Donovan Leitch have collaborated on a graphic novel and real-life One Model Nation album, streeting January 31.
Inspired by the actual German Baader-Meinhof Gang of the seventies, the graphic novel follows the saga of One Model Nation as they become entangled in the police hunt for the notorious gang, inadvertently becoming Berlin’s public enemy #1.
Courtney Taylor-Taylor writes: “The book you hold in your hands is nowhere near an accurate historical text. It is merely inspired by the outrageous and outlandish behavior and style during this amazing time and place.”
Illustrated by Jim Rugg (the Guild) with a foreword by Michael Allred (Madman, The Atomic, Red Rocket 7), this one-off, hardcover book also includes juicy extras like sketches, storyboards, director’s commentary, deleted scenes and historical background on the Baader-Meinhof gang.
The LP by One Model Nation – entitled Totalwerks Vol. 1 (1969 – 1977) – will be released on The End Records (Sony Red Music). An animated music video featuring art from the novel has been created for the single, Animatic.
