Hailing from Athens, Alabama, gritty and loud Alabama Shakes are indeed shaking things up of late with their rough-around-the-edges, bad-ass garage rock: they recently followed the Fiona Apple at NPR’s big SXSW event; they’ve been announced openers for Jack White on his impending tour, and their long-ready debut LP, Boys & Girls, is finally released via ATO (Rough Trade in the UK).
Comprising primal, screaming frontwoman Brittany Howard and band mates Steve Johnson, Zac Cockrell, and Heath Fogg, Alabama Shakes are for those who love them some Janis and Detroit Cobras but perhaps pine for something a little more “sweet home” and a mite less purdy.
Alabama Shake’s new LP can be streamed in full over at Spinner.ca and their earlier, self-titled EP can be streamed on Bandcamp. For all their news, follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
