With his hotly anticipated solo debut Blunderbuss released just yesterday (April 24), Jack White has already announced that he’s been snapped up by PG-film-moguls Disney to score an upcoming cinematic edition of The Lone Ranger, reports Variety.
“Jack’s an amazing songwriter with a unique style,” said producer Jerry Bruckheimer to Variety on White. “We’re thrilled to hear his fresh take on [Gioachino Rossini’s] William Tell Overture.” (Hear it below).
The film’s forward-thing director, Gore Verbinski, is the person to credit with this seemingly far-fetched partnership. Gore hatched the idea and Johnny was thrilled with it,” Bruckheimer continued. “We’re all very excited to have him on board.”
White has contributed music to films before (including the 2008 James Bond film Quantum of Solace), but this will be the former White Stripe member’s first foray into scoring.
Disney’s The Lone Ranger will star actor Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the Ranger, while sidekick Tonto will be portrayed by Johnny Depp. Look for it to hit theaters in May of 2013.
